Jupiter-Mercury Grahayuddha in Cancer
Jupiter is in its exaltation sign - Cancer but it is Maudhya (combust)till 13/8/2026. On 15/8/2026, Mercury and Jupiter are very close to each other. The effects of this is being examined in this blog.
Jupiter-Mercury Grahayuddha in Cancer
Jupiter (Guru) has transited to Cancer from Gemini on 26th May, 2026 and will be there for approximately a year (17th June, 2027). Jupiter is exalted in Cancer.
It has also become asta/maudhya in this Rasi from 15th July and will remain so till 13th August.
Exaltation and Combustion of Jupiter
There are two aspects to be considered at the same time - Ucca/exaltation and asta/combust.
When it is exalted, the planet has the highest strength and is likely to give full effects. The effects on the native are dependent on the strength or weakness of the planet in the native's horoscope.
A planet is said to be combust when it is hidden in the sky by the Sun's light. Typically, the planet does not have any strength during this period and its effects are considered to be weak.
Jupiter is extremely strong during its transit in Cancer. However, during the asta at this point, it is extremely weak. The effects of Jupiter might be neutralised and will likely not be felt at this time or it may give mixed results.
Grahayuddha
Juipiter will be just coming out of his maudhya around 13/8/2026. He would be extremely weak. Mercury is coming close to 1° of Jupiter in the sky on 15/8/2026. When two planets come so close to each other, it is called a grahayuddha (war between planets).
In most cases, the planet on the North will win. Mercury is on the North this time and he will win.
The planet which wins in a grahyuddha takes away the strength of the losing planet.
Interpretation
It is important to take into account all the factors and then work out the interpretation.
- Jupiter in his exaltation sign i.e. Cancer
- Jupiter just coming out of maudhya
- Grahayuddha with Mercury
- Mercury is also in Cancer
Mercury is taking away the strength of Jupiter since he is on the North.
Mercury is in Cancer, which is Moon's house. In the natural relationship of planets, Mercury considers Moon as its enemy. Therefore, Mercury is not in a good position and will not be very strong.
Jupiter is weak after the maudhya, Whatever strength Jupiter may have is taken away by Mercury at this point.
Both the planets are not very strong to begin with. Mercury is slightly stronger than Jupiter.
When any planet is weak, it is not beneficial for the individuals at that time.
According to most astrologers, if Jupiter is weak in the native's horoscope, the negative effects are likely to compound once the asta period is over. But since he is in a war with Mercury for a day, he is further weakened for few more days. The negative effect may not arise for few more days. If Jupiter is strong in the native's horoscope, the native will not get the benefit of Jupiter's strength till well after the war with Mercury.
The question then is which aspects of the native's life will be affected. Jupiter represents stability, children, teachers, and learning while Mercury deals with intelligence, and speech. All these aspects are likely to be affected in the native's life during this period.
Remedies
In order to strengthen Jupiter and Mercury, the following can be done:
- Donation or wearing clothes of specific colours (golden - yellow for Jupiter and deep green for Mercury)
- Respect elders and teachers, help them as much as possible (Jupiter)
- Control of speech and using intelligence with a calm mind (Mercury)
- Treat children (your own and others' children) properly
- Do things which make others happy (Jupiter)
- Stone - Topaz for Jupiter and Emerald for Mercury. These stones must be worn with specific weights under the guidance of a knowledgeable astrologer. The weight of the stone and the type of jewellery to be worn is dependent on the native's horoscope and the relative strengths and weaknesses of Mercury and Jupiter in the horoscope. This has to be studied by the astrologer and then implemented. If the weight and jewellery used is not appropriate, it can have a contrary effect.
